FB = FML?

I think I'm on facebook too much. I probably check it 5-10 times a day during the week. Mostly to see what my friends are doing, check out links and creep on pictures (everyone does this, don't lie). That's what facebook is about. There alot of great things FB does that make my life easier. Yesterday my good friend got engaged after dating her guy for a VERY long time. She called her mom, then updated her status. How easy was that? One status update and everyone knows. That's the good stuff.

The bad stuff. In that same FB session I found out some other information I probably didn't need to see. I was going through Halloween pictures and saw my ex and his new guy in matching sailor costumes. Now, I already sort of knew about his new guy but I didn't really need to see them making out in their super gay matching costumes. As I don't particularly enjoy my stalker tendencies when they come out, I stopped myself from looking any further.

Do I need to check FB multiple times every day, is my life REALLY better for having FB in my life? Am I the only one having this issue?

PS - Would you ever wear a matching sailor costume with your new boyfriend?

(Answer - Hell no.)

What would you do?

Hopefully you can read the above image, otherwise you won't quite grasp this post. :)

Essentially what has occurred is that an employee decided to vent after a shitty day about their boss. Forgetting that said boss is one of their facebook friends and would read it. The boss took it to heart and appears to have fired them before their probationary period was up.

Why would anybody add their boss to their facebook?? Maybe it's just me, but as a 'boss', I keep a very professional line w/ my employees. We don't go out for drinks, we don't hit movies, and I certainly don't add them to facebook, twitter, or other such sites.

This may seem harsh, but it's a reality of the work. Do I really want to catch you in a lie? Say you call in sick and then I go on facebook and see pics of you drunk the night before. This creates a conflict. Cuz now I know you're a liar. Now if you had called and said 'Sorry, I'm hungover.' I could let it pass for a one off, but if it happens consistently...then u're gone.

Now I think that the boss is going overboard firing somebody. Especially, cuz it's obviously a vent. She can still call him a pervert, just cuz you're gay, doesn't mean you can't perv on girlies. Sure, it's not the nicest way to find that your employees are pissed with you, but it's also feedback. I've often wondered how my employees really feel about me, as you can ask for feedback, but people don't want to hurt your feelings.

Personally, if I was her boss, I'd delete her from facebook, bring them into the office, ask about their comment and then just go back to our normal routine.

What would you do in this situation, if you were the boss?

I tend to get obsessive...

I tend to get a bit obsessive over some things and it's like silly random things.

1) Online profiles. I can only do them for a week or two and then it's too much. Why? Cuz I obsessively refresh the inbox page to see who has sent me a msg. Cuz you never know who might send you something. But then I wait awhile to respond, so it doesn't appear that I'm obsessively clicking. ;)

2) I just posted my first facebook event and have already found myself checking to see who's coming, who's a maybe, and who's not much too often. It's a month away...this is gonna be a daily routine.

3) I've just added a new one. It's called Omegle. You go to the site and pairs you up with a stranger to start a conversation. It's like when you're on the bus and someone just starts talking to you and you continue the convo and then it abruptly ends. The person you're talking to is called a 'stranger' and you are called 'you.' Here's a few of my conversations so far...

Stranger: So let's have sex
You: lol...what?
Stranger: Don't you want have sex?
You: why do you assume I want sex
Stranger: Don't we all
You: disconnected

Stranger: I no want ppl from Taiwan
You: okay....
Stranger: where a u from?
You: canada
Stranger: disconnected

Now I'm on a mission to have a meaningful conversation on this random application.

What are you obsessing with this week?

Am I suppose to twit now?

I'm always behind the times with all these IM/profiles/social networking type things. I was IRC-ing, when it was time to hit gay.com. I was on ICQ, when people had switched over to MSN. Now I'm facebooking, when I'm supposed to be twittering. Honestly, I just don't understand any of it.

Back when I was IRC-ing, it was an outlet to talk to other queers and find ppl to cam with...oh them were the days. Gay.com was never as exciting as everybody wanted a picture and I'd just rather not be judged on my looks. Fall for my wit and then you can see if I look like a git. :P

I would say 2 years ago, I was finally convinced to get on myspace. It was the thing to do, EVERYBODY was doing it. It was super super cool. For artistic reasons (i.e. expand the fanbase and promote stuff), I joined up, I got a few myspace friends and then the whole thing died out. It was when facebook was becoming super popular and everybody switched onto that.

Facebook was soooo cool, you could find all your friends that you long had lost touch with. Which I never understand, if I lost touch with you...it's cuz I don't like you. Otherwise, I'd track your ass down. You can have network of friends and add their friends and invite people to events and blah blah. I didn't get this one either. Yet again for artistic purposes, I signed up and now have over 100 'friends.'

Now comes along this twitter, which from what I understand is simply telling people what you're up to. So I take a shit, I twit that and then everybody knows. I fuck, I twit that and then everybody knows. I decide to twit, so I twit that and everybody knows. :) I just don't understand it. I don't want to know anybody's every move of the day. If something exciting is in their life, they can let me know.

For now, I'm sticking with my trusty msn...it's ol' school, but I like it.
