Tis the season...awards season!

Awards season is upon us. The Golden Globes were announced yesterday and a slew of others will be coming in the next few months all leading up to gay Christmas, the Oscars. The hit of the Golden Globe is "Up in the Air" a dramatic comedy with George Clooney and director by the guy who did Juno.

Now, I am by no means a George Clooney fan. He comes off as a bit too smug for my liking, however he's great in this film. The female leads are fantastic and were also nominated. Anna Kendrick (from the underrated movie Camp) plays a fresh of of university overachiever. As the film progresses we get to see there's more to her than we initially thought. It's kind of a perfect movie...a simple story with flawed, funny and relatable characters.

The other big flick for Awards is Precious. It's been getting a TON of buzz. I think it's a good movie but not nearly as fantastic as Oprah and Tyler Perry would like us to believe. Plus I wanted to slit my wrists and after it was done. Mo'nique has a few amazing scenes but some moments in the film feel like a bad made for tv movie. Most surprising is that Mariah Carey can act! Her part isn't very flashy, but she does a respectable job and, dare I say it, shows some potential for being a working actress in the future.

Other notable movies that should be getting awards this winter are 500 Days of Summer, Julie and Julia (in a perfect world Meryl Streep would win an Oscar every year) and The Blind Side (will be seeing this tomorrow, we'll see if Sandra Bullock is deserving of the buzz she's been getting).

Any awards season faves?

Hey Roman. Rape = Jail!

(The following is an open letter to Roman Polanski.)

Dear Roman,

First off, I apologize if you think that I should refer to as Mr. Polanski.  But I save such respect for those that deserve it.  As I think of you as scum, I will refer to you as Roman.  Not even Ro, as that would mean that we were on good enough terms to get to nickname status.  I won't even call you Supreme Douche as I refer to you in private.  Let's keep it cordial at Roman.  You may refer to me as, Awesome.

I have been reading in the news about your recent detainment.  It must be hard for you.  You probably thought the only place that you weren't safe was the US.  Surprise!  After all these years, they finally caught you.

I recall the Hollywood uproar a few short years ago, when you couldn't pick up your Oscar in person.  What a pity.  But you know, that was your choice.  You could've come home, picked up your Oscar and then been rightfully detained.

You see Roman, *coughs* Supreme Douche *coughs, the math is pretty simple.  When you have sex with a 13 year old girl that makes you a pedofile.   Pedofiles go to jail in the US and many other places around the world with appropriate child protection laws.

You seem to think that being an artist means that you're above the law.  That's dumb.  You were smart and disappeared out of the spotlight.  I guess Michael Jackson could've learned a lesson from you.  Disappear, do a few projects here and there, and you can get away with it.  But you see there's a vast difference between you and MJ.  MJ never admitted guilt.  Nor was he probably ever dickin' those boys.

Only someone who is truly corrupt would admit guilt and then run off like a scared little boy who got caught with his pants down.  I fear that because you got away with it once that you have continued your sexual escapades with children.  Yet, you probably learned from your previous mistakes and have found better ways to get away with it.

I think you should fly to the US, face your sentence (let's face it, it'll be minimal), and then move on with your life.  I'll even reduce your secret name to Minor Douche, if you do.

Sincerely,
Jay

Is Mickey Rourke Hot?

I saw 'The Wrestler' on Saturday night and I really enjoyed it. It's a very simple story and everything kinda falls into place as you would expect. It's shot like a documentary, which some people probably won't like. It has some cool wrestling scenes, where you discover that it's all fake, but actually not always. Seeing glass in people's back and barbed wire...not so much fun.

The best part is certainly Mickey Rourke. The whole time this wrestler is in pain and you can't help but wonder, if Mickey's in the same amount of pain. Which is kinda what made the film interesting to me. Is he acting or not?

On a side note and it explains the title of this posting...is Mickey Rourke hot or not? My boss and I were talking about the movie and she's all 'Mmmmm...he was soo hot in 9 1/2 weeks' and I'm like 'Oh...never saw it!' and she goes 'Yah, everybody wanted him after that, then he became a boxer, fucked his face up, and now he's ugly.'

But I guess that if he was ever cute (and I don't think he was), he'd never be able to pull off a role like he does in 'The Wrestler.' So it's kinda like it was meant to be. I think he was definitely robbed of the Oscar as Sean Penn wasn't anything special. He played gay, but whatever...he already got an Oscar a few years ago. Why not throw Mickey a freakin bone and acknowledge his great work.

Two things...1) watch the movie, it's good and 2) is/was Mickey Rourke ever hot in your eyes?

Jumping on the Band Wagon: The Oscars

The nominees for the Oscars were announced this morning and another year goes by that I haven't seen many of the nominees.

Either I used to watch a lot more movies or the Oscars used to select more mainstream films. Which is it?

No nomination for Dark Knight? The flick was a summer blockbuster that was actually good and made more money than anything in a long ass time. If the shitty way too long romantic drama Titanic could take home a shit load of Oscars based on a billion in global box office... why couldn't Dark Knight get a Best Picture nomination?

The only film that I've seen out of the best picture nominees is Milk. This was a good film, but is it an Oscar film? Not so much. Is it Oscar friendly?? Sure, it's a gay success story. Plus a straight actor playing gay. Whoa! What a concept. Don't get me wrong, I liked the movie, but didn't love it.

I've downloaded Slumdog Millionaire and will give it a view in a few days. Fox Searchlight is on a roll with the nominations these last few years. They convinced ppl that Little Miss Sunshine was best picture worthy.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is on my 'to download' list. I really like David Fincher and his style of directing is always good. Cate Blanchett seems to attract nominations to her flicks, yet she didn't get one this time. Instead, Brad managed to over shadow her.

Frost/Nixon?? What?? Why? Anybody seen this? Anybody interested in seeing this?

No clue what The Reader is about. Just that there was a lot of 'controversy' over Kate Winslet winning a supporting acress Golden Globe for what was apparently a lead role.

I'm disappointed to not see Wall-E for best picture too. This film was amazing!!! 2 hours, robots, little human dialogue, and sooo sooo good.

Them my thoughts on the Oscars...what movies have you seen this year?
