Work It Out with Music

Continuing w/ the music theme of the week, let's talk work outs.  I, for one, could not work out unless I have music helping me in the background.  Music takes me away from the pain, boredom, and frustration of working out.  In between reps, I get to groove a little and this hypes up the routine.  Or if I'm going for a run on the treadmill, I lip sync along to the track to the amusement of those around.

I rejigged my workout playlist on my itunes tonight and here's the run down.  Links to some of the songs that you may not be as familiar with.

Don't Stop Believin' - Glee Cast
Morning After Dark - Timbaland
Tik Tok - Ke$ha
Rock Wit U - Janet Jackson
Funhouse - P!nk
3 - Britney Spears
Sweet Dreams - Beyonce

Songs that I'd dance to at a club...

I haven't been clubbing since probably March of this year.  After so many terrible times, I've just lost all interest.  But if I were to go, I'd like to to hear the following 5 songs and then leave.

Oh yes, Miley Cyrus.  Usually, I'd cut a bitch, if I heard her in a club.  'I'm just being Miley...fuck you!'  But this is the kind of song that I could start the night off with.  No one's on the dance floor, you drag your friends to join you.  You nod your head and move your hips like yah.  It's a perfect way to start the night and then do a couple of shots at the bar to redeem yourself.

While the alcohol settles in, it's time for a little Beyonce.  This song is great, esp. if you're with a tempting ex.  Cuz it's all about being a sweet dream or a beautiful nightmare...  When you're out clubbing, you've no clue about the randoms that you're encountering.  Will they be the one?  Will they bottom?  Do they have any diseases?  Will this be a nite to remember or just another roll in the sack?

As Beyonce ends, I quickly head to the bar for a jack and coke.  Why?  Cuz this Kesha gal brushes her teeth with it.  It's another stupid song that you can jump up and down to and dance like a fool.  Oh oh oh ohhhh oh oh oh ohhhhhh.  This is a great "bump n grind and make out real dirty to" song.  Cop a feel, pinch an ass and just say that you're being a 'bad ass' like Miss Kesha.  Tic tok...the night is slowly coming to an end.

Pink is always good for some more silly dancing.  This is a song for those that have been through a break up (aka ALL OF US!!).  You get to dance with your girlies and pretend that it's all going to be okay.  Who needs a lover, when you can just torch that shit.  I kinda wanna do some body shots to this song.

You all knew it was going to end with this.  Grab 2 ppl and get real damn nasty on that dance floor.  I wanna see cocks out, tits exposed, and a lot of drunken messy kissing.  This better lead to walking to the front of the coat check line to get your shit, threesome sex in the cab, and then a night that you never quite remember, but always brag about.

What songs do you want to dance to in public?

I saw Britney, bitches!

Mmmhmm...that'd be right! I saw Britney, bitches! But not only that, I saw PCD (Pussy Cat Dolls, for you non-mainstream music-ers).

I almost missed my PCD as they were freakin on at 8:05pm. What concert actually starts close to on time? Janet put LL Cool J on around 8:30 or so, but we didn't get her for a long time after.

Anyways, I aimed to be there for 7:50ish, I walk down Bay towards ACC and there's a line all the way out the door. Me being me, I decided to bypass the line (I LOATHE LINES) and walk into the building to find even more lines/crowds. Some gal was squawking on a mic that PCD would be on within 10 minutes and to try another gate to get in.

Everyone's standing there like lemmings, so I booted to another gate and got right in. My seats were great. Last row of 100 level, but section 121, so just off of centre stage. No one tall in front of me and I could see everything perfectly.

PCD comes on at 8:05 and does a 40 minute set of all their hits. Don't Cha into Beep! into Buttons into I Hate This Part into I Don't Need A Man into Stickwitu into Whatchathinkaboutthat into Jai Ho into When I Grow Up (I've probably mixed up the order). The most confusing thing is the 'Baby' Doll looks a lot like Nicole, so I kept following the wrong person. Plus, I don't get why the 2 dancers (redhead and girl who can kick) have a mic, they rarely seemed to sing into it. Either way, they did all their hit songs and no fillers, so I liked, liked, liked.

They leave at 8:45, then we get a Circus show of different side show acts. Pretty damn cool. Miss Spears arrives at 9:05 or 9:20 and delivers with a great opening. She did 'Circus' and has about 15 back up dancers mixed with 4 acrobats and various circus side show. There's a cool video accompaniment too (something featured throughout the show). Too many songs for me to list them, but mostly all off of the last 3 albums with 'Hit Me Baby, One More Time' thrown in near the end.

The cool thing is that Britney is back! Her last few vids have shown some glimmer of her, but nothing like we saw on stage. She was confident, she was dancing, and she seemed to be having fun. There's so much going on that it distracts from anything that she may not be doing so well. :P Highlights were: Radar, Toxic, Womanizer, Piece of Me, and Do Something (mostly cuz they're just my favourite songs).

Does Britney sing?? Fuck no! I don't think she was even singing Everytime. But every tween gal was singing along. I guess they really relate to that song.

Only disappointment was the number of set and costume changes. It's fine after 3 or 4 songs, but at one point, it seems like it's after every song and that just messes with the flow. I like to dance all night, not get up, dance, sit down, wait, get up, dance, sit down, wait. Ohh..I think there's a song in there somewhere. :P

Simply put, the show was $150 (much much cheaper that Madonna & Janet) and you got 2 great acts for the night. Was it worth? Hell's yah!

No, no, I'm not gay, but my choice in concerts is...

Alritey, it's time for a little self disclosure. I'm a self identified bisexual on the whole sexuality spectrum. I prefer the term queer though, it just has a better ring these days. Plus it doesn't get you questions of 'so who do u prefer?' and 'aren't u just lying to yourself' and 'well prove it..when'd u last fuck a girl?' Anyways, that's all for another posting.

If anyone were to look at my recent concert choices, I couldn't fault them for thinking that I was in homo-licious denial of my status. In the past two years, here are the concerts that I've seen: Virgin Fest (multiple performers...went for M.I.A., The Killers, Smashing Pumpkins, and Bjork), Scissor Sisters (where I actually won a contest and got to meet them), M.I.A. at Kool Haus (separate from Virgin Fest), Mika, Coldplay, Janet Jackson, Madonna, and Alanis Morisette. There's probably a few more, but I just ain't remembering right now.

So yes, lookin at my concert choices, I can see the gayyyyyy! But in my defense, I didn't get tickets to Katy Perry. Mostly cuz I don't agree with the exploitation of gay culture by a mainstream artist. If you think that song would've been number 1, if it was 'I Kissed A Boy and I Liked It...' - you're mistaken. Anyways...

Here's a quick run down of the remembrances that I have from these concerts:

Virgin Fest - 2 long ass days filled w/ much dancing and the realization that being further from the stage means loss bothersome people. :) Plus all of Bjork's songs start to sound the same, when played live.

Scissor Sisters - not quite as good as the first time that I saw them. All of them really nice in person. Though I said few words and just took a couple of pictures that I think are now long gone thanks to hard drive crash.

M.I.A. - lots of weird opening acts and then she comes on and this guy starts up trouble and beats the shit outta this other guy. Other than that, M.I.A. songs are meant for a dance party.

Mika - an amazing live performer and totally uber gay...even if he won't admit it.

Coldplay - songs meant for large stadiums. Fix You was great!

Janet Jackson - 9 rows from the stage. As a huge fan, getting 35 of her greatest hits was more than I could take. Plus girl got mad booty!!

Madonna - hits and misses. Not enough dancing and too much guitar playing. Nice personal moment had during 'Miles Away' thou that I still think about.

Alanis - 4th row from stage. Amazing live performer! Massey Hall is such an awesome venue. Trevor Boris almost getting his ass kicked, even better.

And well now here's my confession...you see, I've been rambling on and sharing random information for this reason.

I bought Britney Spears tickets today and I'm a little ashamed to admit it. I think of my 19 year old self and he'd probably kick my ass nowadays. But her last 3 albums have had some really great dance tracks on it and I really enjoy them. So I'm gonna go and dance my little queer booty off to her lip sync-ed tracks. Plus, Pussy Cat Dolls are the opening. 2 in 1. :)

The only other 2 concerts that I presently want to see in 2009 are P!nk and Fleetwood Mac.

Haha...feel free to make fun. :P
