Work It Out with Music

Continuing w/ the music theme of the week, let's talk work outs.  I, for one, could not work out unless I have music helping me in the background.  Music takes me away from the pain, boredom, and frustration of working out.  In between reps, I get to groove a little and this hypes up the routine.  Or if I'm going for a run on the treadmill, I lip sync along to the track to the amusement of those around.

I rejigged my workout playlist on my itunes tonight and here's the run down.  Links to some of the songs that you may not be as familiar with.

Don't Stop Believin' - Glee Cast
Morning After Dark - Timbaland
Tik Tok - Ke$ha
Rock Wit U - Janet Jackson
Funhouse - P!nk
3 - Britney Spears
Sweet Dreams - Beyonce

New Music Round-Up

Monday was a big day for new music. Susan Boyle's highly anticipated album came out. It's going to be the number one album next week but that's not enough to get me to buy it. Here's what I did buy...

Rihanna - Rated R, much darker than her previous stuff. I'm not a fan but Te Amo and Rude Boy are worth a download.

Lady Gaga - Fame Monster. It's thisclose to being an album (8 songs), totally worth the price. Gaga can do no wrong at this point. Best songs - Monster and Bad Romance. The video for Bad Romance is totally bitchin'.

Jay Sean - All or Nothing. This guy had a huge hit with Down (featuring everybody's BFF Lil Wayne). Most of the songs sound the same and there's nothing that stands out. Give this one a pass...but look at the album cover and bask in his hotness.

Adam Lambert - For Your Entertainment is the biggest surprise for me. I didn't like him on American Idol but the lead single got me hooked and overall the album is a fun mix of pop-rock and dance. The title track, Aftermath, Whataya Want From Me and If I Had You are my faves.

Kris Allen, the actual winner of American Idol released a CD last week as well. The lead single Live Like We're Dying is catchy but the rest of the album is blands-ville.

What else is out there? Leona Lewis? John Mayer? Tell me what you think!

Songs for the Moment

After 8 hours of final video creating for Hard & Able: celebrating queer disability tomorrow, here's a quick post of some songs that I'm enjoying at the moment.

Manos Al Aire by Nelly Furtado

Videos tu.tv

I kinda love this song. It's fun to see Nelly devote a whole album to not singing in english. She usually does a portion of her songs in spanish and portuguese and now we get a whole album worth. What I really like about this video is how it's subtitled. While I would probably like the song without knowing what she's saying, it certainly helps. Plus I spent the last week closed captioning videos, so I have a new appreciation for it. ;)

Run This Town - by Jay-Z featuring Kanye and Rihanna

Okay, so I haven't really liked much from Jay-Z for awhile and Kanye's needs to step out of the lime light for a bit to make me appreciate him. But Rihanna saves this track and well I can't keep the opening bit outta my head. "Who's gonna run this town tonight?" It's quite the power house of artists on this one track and it makes me really want another Rihanna album. I like the variety of her last album. Plus, I'm intrigued to discover what her new album is gonna have on it content wise. Will she address the Chris Brown beat down?

Use Somebody by Kings Of Leon

Kings of Leon - Use Somebody (Official Music Video) - The funniest videos clips are here

When did this album come out?? Was it even 2007?? I feel like I've heard this song such a long time ago. It came on the radio today and I just checked the Billboard charts and it's in the top 10. I guess mainstream audiences outside of the rock charts have finally found it. It's a great song to sing on a road trip. Which is what I did way back in April...and now it's August.

There are some songs that I'm feeling now, how about u? Did I miss the song of the summer? It seems like we haven't had one this year.

It's cool to buy illegal guns, but wrong to smack your bitch up!

Hey look, it's 2 famous urban artists, Chris Brown and T.I. They're responsible for such 'hits' as 'Forever' and 'Live Your Life.' One's a felon and the other isn't...yet.

T.I.'s got himself in trouble for trying to purchase machine guns. Chris Brown's in trouble for allegedly beating the shit outta Rihanna.

Now which one would you choose to be on your marketing campaign? I'll give you a few seconds to weigh the pros and cons. Convicted vs. innocent until proven guilty. Hrem...should be an easy one. Both kinda even in the looks department, though I'd rather do T.I. than Chris Brown. T.I. just seems more freaky. Chris is young and would probably just be a bit too hyper. Keep debating and then jump to the next paragraph for the answer.

It's....the convicted felon, T.I.!!! You see, there's a film coming out in 2010 (yep, that far away) called 'Bone Deep' starring T.I, Chris Brown, and Hayden Christensen. Apparently, due to Chris Brown's beating up of Rihanna, they've deemed him too controversial to have in any posters, trailers, or anything like that. Now T.I. is okay, cuz you know all he tries to do is buy illegal guns...you know to hunt for deer n shit...in the urban forest. :P

Not only does he get to be in the ad campaign, but he also gets his own show on MTV called 'T.I.'s Road to Redemption: 45 days.' You see, he's got to put in 1000 community service hours to prove to the judge that he's a good boy. If he does, he may get a reduced sentence. Each week, he gives a life lesson to a teenager on the 'wrong path.' Anybody else know what community hours is??? It's not getting paid to do a tv show. Getting paid is a job! Community service hours is donating your time for free, doing menial stupid ass work.

Now I'm in now way letting Chris Brown off for his alleged crimes. I fully support not playing his music, smashing his cds, and of course, having Rihanna's Dad go and kick the shit out of him.

I think that T.I. should be facing a little bit of trouble too. Boy's got a couple of convictions for ass kicking himself. Instead it seems like he's had nothing but success...which don't make no sense.

Today's life lesson of the day: It's cool to buy illegal guns, but wrong to smack your bitch up!
